HEAVY thinks that kids movies should be reviewed by kids, so we have enlisted 10-year-old Scarlett Myors to check out the latest in children’s entertainment…
Okay, sooo I just watched Elio and OMG I have so many thoughts 😭💫
First of all, Elio is this super artsy, kinda awkward 11-year-old kid who doesn’t really fit in (relatable much??). He’s always drawing stuff and kind of off in his own little world, and THEN he accidentally gets taken to space by aliens who think he’s the leader of Earth 😂 like… what???
And guess what? He doesn’t even correct them!! So now he’s stuck in this crazy galaxy full of weird aliens (some are super cute tho, not gonna lie) and he’s gotta represent Earth. No pressure or anything 🙃
But it’s not just a funny space movie — it’s actually super emotional too 🥺💔. Elio’s trying so hard to figure out who he is, and I swear some of the scenes made me want to cry and hug him at the same time. He has this really sweet relationship with his aunt (played by Zoe Saldaña — QUEEN 👑), and there’s this alien prince named Glordon who is basically a glowing marshmallow with feelings, and I love him.
Also: the animation??? SO PRETTY. Like every single scene is full of colours and sparkly space stuff, and I just wanted to pause it and stare. Pixar popped OFF with this one, fr.
There were a few slow parts in the middle ngl, but the ending totally made up for it. When Elio finally learns to be himself and not who people expect him to be?? ICONIC. I was like YES KING 👏
My final thoughts:
Elio is funny, emotional, weird (in a good way), and soooo beautiful. If you’ve ever felt like the odd one out or like no one “gets” you, you’ll totally connect with it. It’s not just a movie — it’s a whole feeling 🪐💖
Rating: 9.5/10 (and Glordon gets a 100/10 just because 💅✨)
