Revelation Perth International Film Festival opens tonight at Luna Leederville, celebrating twenty-two years of delivering a wealth of quality global indie cinema to Perth audiences.
Presenting over 150 films from 30 countries, industry masterclasses, Q+As, exhibitions, 18 world and 60 Australian premieres and 22 WA made films, Revelation has something for everyone.
Our opening night screening Kursk is the latest film from renown Scandinavian director Thomas Vinterburg. Based on the true story of the ill-fated Russian submarine, this nail biting drama packs a punch as it reveals the shambolic rescue attempts made to retrieve the crew from the bottom of the ocean.
Revelation also brings to Perth XR:WA; a major showcase and conference about the world of virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence and gaming in venues across Perth and Fremantle.
2019 was the strongest Revelation program to date, said Director Richard Sowada.
“With the addition of XR:WA and a selection of the best international independent films on show, Rev has cemented its place as the one of the most critically and industrially important screen culture events in the county…and that’s great for the local industry and community of which we have been a part of for 22 years.”
Highlights of Revelation 2019 include industry guests and speakers, seminars and exhibitions; Adam Pearson – Chained For Life actor and equality advocate appearing in two very special presentations; Blind Date – a music video competition unveiling local talent at Freo.Social; Screenwest’s annual showcase of emerging WA filmmaking talent in Get Your Shorts On!; and an exhibition of cutting edge visual arts works at Fremantle Arts Centre with the Other Suns program.

Dragged Across Concrete – Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughan as over zealous cops on an unexpected break from duty; The Wind – a re-imagining of the western with a gothic feel; The Juniper Tree – newly restored, this film features Bjork’s big screen debut in the retelling of a Brothers Grimm fairytale; The Wedding Guest – Dev Patel stars in Michael Winterbottom’s crime thriller that criss-crosses India and Pakistan; Alien – celebrating the 40th anniversary of this cult classic.

Under The Wire – instantly recognisable by her eye patch, Marie Colvin sought to bring exposure to the injustice, brutality and futility of war; David Crosby: Remember My Name – one of the best known faces of 1960s counter-culture struggles to understand why he survived; XY Chelsea – the simple honesty in the midst of a complex issue; Framing John DeLorean – one of the most enigmatic figures in the international automobile industry; The Final Quarter – the must watch film documenting the final three years of Adam Goodes’ AFL playing career.

Experimental Showcase – the latest selection of experimental works from around the world; Love Express – a fascinating portrait of a visionary filmmaker Walerian Borowczyk; Nostalgia For Existing Without Delay – the peculiarities of human behaviour and the struggles against putting off existence; All The Gods In The Sky – a unique blend of drama, horror, fantasy and sci-fi!
