Stan Original Series Romper Stomper has been picked up by BBC Three for the UK territory.
The deal, made through independent UK based distributor DCD Rights, will see Romper Stomper, a Roadshow Rough Diamond production in association with Screen Australia and Film Victoria, launch in the UK in early 2018. It follows the previously announced sale to SundanceTV, which will see the the show broadcast in multiple territories on the SundanceTV Global channel including Eastern Europe, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal and Latin America.
On the back of its record-breaking launch in Australia, Romper Stomper joins a growing roster of Stan Originals’ award-winning, fresh and diverse dramas and comedies to find major international partners. AACTA Award-winning and Logie Award-nominated drama series Wolf Creek was distributed through global content leader Lionsgate for the North American Market, and FOX international Channels in the UK, while AACTA Award-winning and Logie Award-nominated series No Activity was recently picked up by Hulu in the US through a deal with BBC Worldwide. Last year CBS Television Studios, in association with Funny Or Die, Jungle and Gary Sanchez Productions, commissioned and produced an eight part US versionNo Activity, also streaming on Stan.

Romper Stomper picks up on the themes and story of Geoffrey Wright’s ground-breaking and controversial 1992 film, follows a new generation of the activist Right, their Anti-Fascist counterparts and three young Lebanese Muslims caught between the conflict.
The six-part high stakes crime drama brings the battle of opposing views into the modern-day context where hard right agitators have traded swastikas for the southern cross. Told from multiple points of view, Romper Stomper eerily echoes recent events and groups currently active in Melbourne and Australia. Set in the present day, it deals with political and social issues and highlights the shift of extremism from the fringe to the suburbs.

Behind the scenes Geoffrey Wright (Romper Stomper, Metal Skin, Macbeth), Daina Reid (The Secret River, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War), and New Zealander James Napier Robertson (The Dark Horse) each share directing duties.
Romper Stomper is produced by multi award-wining veteran producer John Edwards (Love My Way, Puberty Blues, Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo) and Dan Edwards for Roadshow Rough Diamond with major production investment from Stan and Screen Australia in association with Film Victoria, and international distribution by DCD Rights. The 6 x 1 hour drama is written by Wright, Robertson, award-winning author/poet and rapper Omar Musa (Here Come the Dogs), and Walkley Award-winning journalist and author Malcolm Knox (Jamaica, The Life, The Wonder Lover).
